Gaining a place at KEGS is highly competitive both in Year 7, through the 11+ system, and for external students joining the Sixth Form. As a result, all of our students are immensely capable and we have very high expectations of their academic performance at every level. We are keen to stress that examination preparation is only one part of life at KEGS – this is far from being an exam factory – but it is an important part and we take it very seriously. Academic qualifications remain an essential component on anyone’s CV and KEGS students are encouraged to maximise the range of options they have for university and career choice by getting the very best exam results that they can. Every year our students gain access to courses in strongly academic universities around the country, including high numbers going to Oxford and Cambridge.
At GCSE, students typically enter for 12 or 13 subjects. Over 80% of grades achieved are A or A* with almost all students gaining at least 10 GCSEs. At A level, students typically take four subjects plus General Studies and 80-85% of grades are at A or B. Our average total point scores at GCSE and A level place us among the very highest achieving schools in the country.
From the very start of Year 7, we instill in students a desire to strive for the very highest academic standards. At the same time we recognise that every student has unique, individual abilities and we are continually delighted and amazed by the quality of work they can produce as they explore and develop their talents to the full.
