Broad, Challenging Curriculum

The curriculum at KEGS is designed to support our mission: “Our students will be guided and challenged to become principled global citizens, committed to making a contribution to the communities in which they live, committed to economic and environmental sustainability and to tackling poverty and intolerance. Enabled by a philosophy of ‘learning without limits’ students will be central to their own learning, striving to achieve at the highest possible level in an environment of mutual trust and respect that allows the ‘KEGS spirit’ to flourish. Students will develop as independent life-long learners, creative risk-takers and innovators. They will be leaders and team-players as well as confident individuals who set themselves challenging personal and professional life goals.”

The curriculum is characterised by breadth and rigour at all levels, with increased specialisation in later years. During Key Stage Three, all students study Maths, English, Science, IT, Art, Music, Drama, French and German (one of them very intensively), Latin, History, Geography, RE, PE, PSHE and Technology. At Key Stage Four, all students continue with Maths, English Language and Literature, separate Biology, Physics and Chemistry, RE and five further options including a language and a humanities subject. Most students also take Statistics GCSE. Homework forms an important element of students’ learning from Year 7 onwards, as do the numerous curriculum-driven trips, visits and activity days. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and can access a plethora of material for each course through KEGSnet, our excellent in-house virtual learning environment.
