The facilities at KEGS have been expanded and developed significantly in the last 10 years. Most recently, in 2009, we opened the magnificent Darwin Centre to provide specialist facilities for the Sixth Form, a dedicated careers library and a ‘laboratory classroom’ for show-casing work done through our Leading Edge Partnership. This was achieved as a result of a record-breaking £2 million fund-raising effort with the entire project being funded by the generosity of donors and parents. We also have a lovely Music School and a well-equipped hall that allows us to put on professional-standard concerts and plays and the rare privilege of running full-school assemblies.
We have a good-sized gym and dedicated fitness suite alongside a main playing field and tennis courts on the school site. We also have an amazing thirty-acre site with several rugby, football and cricket pitches and a pavilion at the Bedford Fields site in Broomfield. Students are transported to and from the site for games by coach.
Within the school students have access to specialist classrooms and laboratories for Art, Science and Technology, several IT rooms and the beautiful Duffield Library housed in the Victorian building dating back to 1892. We recently introduced electronic registration and all classrooms are equipped with projectors, and wireless access to a host of on-line resources to support learning. The school achieved Healthy School status in 2009 and we are very proud of the standard of our catering. We are now striving to become a genuine ‘Eco-School’ with a range of initiatives underway to reduce litter, electricity and paper consumption.
