Through our Leading Edge Partnership work and our Science and Language specialisms, we have developed a reputation for being at the forefront of educational action research. KEGS is a member of the CamSTAR group of schools, working with Cambridge University and a range of schools in Essex and Cambridgeshire. Most recently, KEGS become one of the first Lead Schools for Gifted and Talented. We have established a strong local partnership, working with other selective and comprehensive schools, to research best practice in teaching very able students.
In several subjects, teachers are engaged in particularly innovative approaches to learning. For example, in Science, we have practioners who have pioneered the use of technology in Science education and have led numerous conference sessions. In English, the ideas behind ‘dialogic teaching’ as put forward by Robin Alexander, have been introduced and we are in the process of widening this approach to other curriculum areas. In Languages, we are pioneering a radical ‘intensive curriculum’ leading to GCSE in Year 9. There are many more examples.
To celebrate and publicise our research work, we publish our own research journal, Learning Lessons (available on our main website www.kegs.org.uk), in addition to contributing to national journals. Please take time to read them.
