Professional Development

At KEGS we recognise that all members of staff are learners. To this end, we provide significant support for the professional development of teachers and support staff. This includes a higher than average number of staff training days per year and support to attend courses and conferences. All teachers are members of ‘teaching and learning workshops’ which are based on the ideas of Professor Dylan Wiliam. The workshops focus on a particular aspect of teaching and learning that the members investigate during the year, observing each other’s lessons and giving feedback. The findings from each workshop are then shared with everyone else.

Several members of staff have been supported to study for Masters degrees or to become involved with exam boards as examiners. Many colleagues have presented at local and national conferences and we have a number of teachers who have a national reputation in their field and are regularly called upon to support the work of teachers in other schools.

Working at KEGS, in any role, is a learning experience. There is so much to learn from teaching very able and motivated students; they push us as far as we push them in a virtuous circle. This is the place to discover just how far learning can go.
